What is Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced ray key) is the Japanese term for the vital life force that exists in all living things and is the name given to a system of natural healing which evolved in Japan. It is a perfectly natural complementary healing therapy that can be used alongside conventional medicine to assist recovery and help the body’s natural flow of energy to become more balanced.
The method of receiving a Reiki treatment from a practitioner is a very simple process. Reiki is given with you either reclining on a therapy couch or if you are unable to lie down the treatment can be given in a sitting position. The main thing is for you to be as comfortable as possible to maximise your relaxation and comfort. There is no need to remove any clothing as Reiki will pass through anything, even plaster casts. The practitioner gently places their hands non-intrusively in a sequence of positions which cover the whole body. A full session takes 1 hour with each hand position held for several minutes.
Physically and emotionally, Reiki helps to support the body's natural ability to heal itself and promotes the release of blocked areas and toxins, cleansing the body and gently effecting changes to promote a healthier life. It is a safe, relaxing and natural method of treating many health problems.
Reiki is a gentle energy and may be used safely by all ages, including the newborn, pregnant mothers, surgical patients, the frail and the elderly, regardless of their state of health. Reiki can enhance everyday life, and regular sessions help to ward-off illness and fatigue.
