Traditional Thai Massage

Thai massage is a physical yet relaxing massage, which has been passed on through the centuries by Buddhist monks and is practised medicinally in Thailand alongside herbal medicine and spiritual practices. Many of its origins come from India and as a result some of the Thai massage techniques are akin to yoga exercises and stretches. It differs from Western massage, not only in technique and method but also in as much that the client receives the massage on the floor, on a mat and fully clothed.

Thai massage is performed using gentle, rhythmic movements and focuses on energy lines and pressure points closely connected to the meridian system used in Chinese Traditional Medicine and Shiatsu. While using hands, feet, knees on pressure points, the bodyweight of the therapist is also gently used to assist stretches – always working with the client and constantly assessing the pressure of the point work and the depth of stretch so as not to cause discomfort in any way.

Traditional Thai Massage can help with:

  • Releasing muscle tension
  • Increasing joint mobility/flexibility
  • Nerve and ligament balancing
  • Improve the circulation of blood and lymph
  • Enhances the elimination of wastes and toxins
  • Assists posture and alignment
  • Promotes relaxation and decreases stress
