Commonly Asked Questions

Having a massage, or indeed any other complementary treatment, can be a little daunting the first time you come to the Centre.  Particularly if you haven’t had a treatment before and don’t know what to expect.  Our friendly reception team are always happy to answer any questions you may have and we have compiled a list of those most frequently asked in a bid to “demystify” the process and put you more at ease.

Do I have to listen to whale music and pan pipes?

The short answer to this is “NO” you don’t!  Some clients find that listening to relaxing music enhances their experience and, to this end, we always offer the option of having music playing in the background during your treatment. However, every client is individual in their likes and dislikes and you should feel free to tell your therapist if you prefer to not have music playing.

What should I wear for my massage/can I keep my underwear on?

You should undress to the level that is comfortable for you.  Your therapist will work around any clothes you have left on as best they can.  It is important that you are able to relax in order to get the maximum benefit from your treatment.

Will I be covered?

You will be covered with a towel on the massage bed and your therapist will only uncover the parts of the body being worked on.  If the therapist needs you to turn over during the massage they will drape a towel so that you remain completely covered.

I’m worried that I may fall asleep during the treatment!

This is a huge compliment to your therapist as it shows them that you are comfortable and feel safe; and don’t worry you will gently awakened at the end of your treatment.

How do I tell my therapist that I don’t want to chat without appearing rude?

Your therapist should always take their cue from you – it is perfectly ok to tell them that you prefer a quiet treatment.  Therapists know that the time you spend with them is often the only quiet time you have in a busy life.

Can I claim the cost against my private health insurance?

It depends on your insurance policy as different companies offer different levels and types of cover.  We can provide you with a receipt for any treatments you have for you to submit to your insurance company in support of your claim.

I’m pregnant, can I still have a treatment?

Once you are past the first trimester of your pregnancy we are happy to offer you a pregnancy massage.  Massage during pregnancy can be very beneficial in reducing anxiety, decreasing back and leg pain, improving sleep and decreasing stress.  Your therapist will use pillows and bolsters to make sure you are comfortable, regularly changing your position to ensure your continued comfort.

Is Sports Massage only for athletes?

You do not need to be a sports person to benefit from sports massage.  The treatment can also be effective in relieving problems such as tension and muscle fatigue, restoring balance to the musculoskeletal system, optimising flexibility and maintaining a healthy body.

Testimonials

I had a deep tissue massage with Mike yesterday, couldn’t recommend enough. I walked into the clinic with little mobility in my back due to tight muscles. After an hours session I felt great. Highly recommend both Mike & the clinic itself.
