What is Reiki?
Reiki practitioners often say that one hour of reiki is the equivalent to several hours of deep relaxing sleep! Reiki is one of the most effective and gentle ways to manage stress.
"Rei" means "Universal" and "Ki" means "Life force" in Japanese. When we are healthy this "life force", or energy, flows easily around the body. Stress and tension can cause an imbalance resulting in physical or emotional symptoms. Acupuncture, Tai Chi and yoga are also based on the free-flow of this energy in a person. The aim of Reiki is to help to restore this energy back into balance and promote a state of total relaxation and a feeling of overall well-being.
During a Reiki session the client lies fully clothed on a massage bed. The therapist then gently places their hands in a sequence of positions on the client's head and body, with each hand position held for several minutes.
As no physical pressure is applied, it is ideal for everyone including the very young, the elderly, the chronically ill and those recovering from surgery.
