Acupuncture Saves Little Girl from Eczema
After all other forms of treatment had failed, Ricardo Miranda, L.Ac.cured a little girl of eczema. She was cured primarily through the use of acupuncture, says Miranda.
The three year old girl presented with eczema, said Miranda, 49. Her mother, Norma Alcontara, said that they had been to doctors, dermatologists, pediatricians and dieticians. The family had tried everything.
“Eczema is a skin condition, she was covered from head to toe with rashes. Whole arms and face,” said Miranda.
“I started with just coaching mom on diet and supplements based on her genetics. Her mother already had her on a perfect diet and had eliminated everything inflammatory from her diet, no gluten, eggs, fish, etc.”
“So I reduced the supplements and based on her genetic profile, especially her MTHFR mutation, because this gene governs intercellular detoxification,” he says. “We realized its not enough, so we started acupuncture on her, and she started improving.”
One of the doctors had drawn the girls blood, which complicated her treatment. “They drew blood and she was traumatized because they hurt her arm. So her mother would walk her on the stroller, sometime for two to three hours, until she fell asleep in the office. Then I would do acupuncture while she was asleep,” Miranda recalls.
“After 2 or 3 months, she forgot about the trauma, and now she comes in we do acupuncture and she’s fine, she says she loves the treatment.”
“She kept improving and now she’s over 90% better. This single thing that made the most difference was the acupuncture.”
Miranda, who is from Brazil, studied acupuncture at Emperors’ College in Santa Monica. When Miranda became an Acupuncturist 21 years ago, he joined a profession that is at least 3000 years old. But through genetic analysis, he puts a modern slant on it.
“MTHFR is arguably the most important of all the genes in our body because it provides the most important fuel for methylation to occur,” Miranda says. “Methylation is the process that regulates the expressions of all other genes turning them on or off and MTHFR is the gene that turns the methylation process on. Basically, methylation is the engine that regulates our body and MTHFR is the ignition that turns that engine on, which means it has the most direct effect on the methylation process and our ability to detoxify and to turn disease genes on or off.”
“As of 2015, there have been more than 4,500 researches studying the MTHFR gene and how its been connected with many chronic conditions including cancer, multiple sclerosis, digestive problems, infertility, blood sugar issues, thyroid issues, anxiety and the list goes on. But biology is not destiny, and Acupuncture can turn the engine off,” he says.
“Since I started at Westside Acupuncture & Wellness Center,” says the patient’s mother, Norma Alcontara, “my daughter’s skin has tremendously improved. Now, my daughter looks like a normal toddler with a normal skin, I can walk out there with her without people noticing that we have battled with severe skin issues all over her body. A big thanks to Dr. Miranda’s help, I am convinced that besides her diet, and supplements, the most important thing that is helping her to heal is the weekly acupuncture sessions, that helps her system while it starts to function back to normal and respond by itself.”
Dermatitis, also known as eczema, is a group of diseases that results in inflammation of the skin. These diseases are characterized by itchiness, red skin, and a rash. In cases of short duration there may be small blisters while in long-term cases the skin may become thickened. The area of skin involved can vary from small to the entire body.
She was cured of Eczema within 6 months, through use of acupuncture, diet and supplements.
The exact cause of dermatitis is often unclear. Cases are believed to often involve a combination of irritation, allergy, and poor venous return. The type of dermatitis is generally determined by the person’s history and the location of the rash. For example, irritant dermatitis often occurs on the hands of people who frequently get them wet. Allergic contact dermatitis, however, can occur following brief exposures to substances to which a person is sensitive. Conventional treatment generally involves steroids and antibiotics.
Acupuncture is a form of alternative medicine involving thin needles being inserted into the body. It is a key component of traditional Chinese medicine. Theory and practice are not based upon science, and acupuncture is commonly described as “without scientific basis.” There is a diverse range of acupuncture theories, involving different philosophies in different countries.
