Reduced Hypnotherapy Rates Available for People with Gastrointestinal Problems
Study beginning Nov 2009
All gastrointestinal problems, such as IBS are very common, in fact it is estimated by the NHS that 10 to 20% if the population are affected by IBS specifically at any one time, when this condition is widened to all gastrointestinal problems the percentage is significally increased. It is believed that many gastrointestinal problems are heavily affected by the stresses of everyday life. If you have ever had butterflies in your stomach when faced with a stressful situation you donâ??t need to be convinced of the link between your emotions and your gastrointestinal tract. Today more and more physicians accept the fact that the state of a persons mind affects the digestive system in the form of IBS, ulcers, colitis and Crohns disease.
Currently a number of studies are being completed throughout the UK on the affects of Hypnotherapy on IBS to raise hypnotherapies profile in this area and provide evidence to encourage the NHS to accept hypnotherapy as a valid form of treatment of this condition. Previous studies have demonstrated that the use of hypnotherapy for IBS has a greater success rate than drugs alone and can provide long term relief of the condition through the use of direct suggestion and by giving the patient self help techniques. Three to five session of hypnotherapy have shown the symptoms of IBS are reduced and the patients have a greater control of their lives overall.
