Acupuncture is a system of healing which has been practised in China and the East for thousands of years. The focus behind it is to improve overall wellbeing rather than simply treat isolated symptoms by unblocking energy points throughout the body.
One of the many conditions for which acupuncture can bring benefits is in the treatment of fertility problems, which have increased dramatically in the past few decades. It’s thought that up to a quarter of couples may have trouble conceiving. Body & Mind acupuncturist Sam Holt reports “Aside from musculo-skeletal and menstrual issues, fertility is the main concern that I see in the clinic. A number of couples have found success and I am delighted to be helping them through the latter stages of their pregnancies”.
The benefits of acupuncture for fertility include balancing of hormones and regulation of the menstrual cycle. There is also evidence to support the treatment of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and endometriosis. Male clients can also be treated for issues relating to male fertility. Another benefit of acupuncture is the relaxation it brings. Stress hormones are known to negatively affect fertility and the calming effects of treatment support the ability to conceive. After conception, continued treatment can support you and your baby throughout the rest of your pregnancy.
